Historically, family physicians have recorded patient information using paper charts. The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) enables health care providers to manage their patients’ health information and history digitally.
In August 2006, Nova Scotia was the first province in Canada to deliver province-wide electronic lab and diagnostic imaging results to clinics. The Nova Scotia Health Authority Information Management & Technology (IM/IT) team supports primary health care providers that use or require access to an EMR. There are currently three EMR platform options available to health providers in Nova Scotia.
